Great Lakes Yacht Charters provide the defining tour around 95,000 square miles of the largest fresh water system in the world. The five Great Lakes (Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, and Lake Superior) create a 1,000-mile border between Canada and the United States. Lake Ontario is the smallest, easternmost Great Lake. In the east is Henderson Harbor, with a long history as a fishing/vacation resort. Yacht into Toronto’s Ontario Place marina and the Toronto Islands. To the southwest is warm Lake Erie. Presque Isle Bay has the active Erie Yacht Club. Port Colborne’s yacht charters start at the opening of the Welland Canal. Lake Huron is north of Lake St. Clair, containing two large bays and surrounds Manitoulin Island, the world’s largest freshwater island. It is inherently designed for yachts and offers outstanding North Channel exploration. Traveling northwest will carry a yachter into Lake Michigan. Traverse City provides several northern yacht/fishing charters. Chicago offers a number of yacht charters, some at the mega-recreation facility Navy Pier. Northwest of Lake Michigan is the largest Great Lake, Lake Superior, with its breathtaking 31,700 square miles and challenging yachting. The twin ports of Duluth, MN and Superior, WI have prime fishing. The best yacht season varies between the upper and lower Great Lakes. Lake Huron north and Lake Superior have a June to September season, while the lower Lakes enjoy May to October yachting.
