Annapolis
, known as the “Sailing Capital of the World,” is a great yachting destination. From its’ earliest days as a colonial seaport town, Annapolis has been welcoming visitors with its gracious hospitality and beauty. Although this historic city eventually lost its shipping trade to the much deeper harbor in Boston, it remains a recreational boating, sailing, and fishing capital, and has an internationally celebrated maritime community. Annapolis is also the capital city of Maryland and home to the United States Naval Academy. Its’ anchorages feature vessels from all around the world, and an annual Maritime Heritage Festival is held on the City Dock to celebrate this aspect of its’ lifestyle. In the fall, two of the largest water boat shows in the world are held here for sail and powerboat enthusiasts, on successive weekends. As you would expect, Annapolis has yacht charters of every kind, and several narrated boat tours of the area, including Annapolis Harbor, Severn River, the banks of the U.S. Naval Academy, Chesapeake Bay Bridges and the Thomas Point Lighthouse. The City Dock has sail boat rides daily, and the Waterfront district has small boat rentals, captained catamaran & fishing cruises. Annapolis also makes a great walking tour. It has more original 18th century structures than any other city in the U.S., and a stroll along tree lined streets takes you to museums, restaurants and quaint shops.
