Long Island
is 118 miles long and nearly 20 miles wide, making it the largest island adjoining the continental United States. With impressive views and breathtaking sunsets – there is no better way to experience Long Island than from the comfort of a boat. With Long Island Sound to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south and east, Long Island has long been celebrated for its fishing industry and maritime appeal. The area offers a large assortment of yacht charters, such as fishing excursions, ecological tours, paddle wheelers, dinner and sunset cruises, sailing adventures – even tall ships are available for tour. Geographically speaking, Long Island includes the counties of Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk, and is divided into five distinct regions. North Shore has dozens of historic sites and Gatsby-style mansions and South Shore is the island’s sports center, home to the Fire Island beaches. Central Suffolk has beautiful forests and natural inlets; North Fork has an array of vineyards and farms; and South Fork is widely known as “The Hamptons.” Long Island also includes the Fire Island National Seashore, a 32-mile narrow strip of barrier island that encompasses a wilderness area and 17 different beachside communities. Add to all of this pristine beaches, picturesque lighthouses, family fun parks, aquariums, a variety of festivals, cultural events and world-class restaurants, and it’s easy to see why Long Island is a yachting mecca for the northeastern Atlantic seaboard.
