Roatan
is the largest of the eight islands known as Las Islas de la Bahia, that lie about forty miles northeast of the coast of Honduras. Roatan is approximately 40 miles long and less than four miles wide, with a population of about 30,000 welcoming and friendly people who originate from eight different cultures. Not as “touristy” as many of the other Caribbean islands, Roatan nonetheless has brilliant blue water, palm-fringed beaches, a warm climate with constant tradewinds, thus making it an ideal yachting destination. There are three main marinas for visiting vessels - Fantasy Island, Romeo’s and French Harbor Yacht Club. One of the best things about Roatan is its’ extensive reef system, the world’s second largest, which offers spectacular diving and snorkeling. There are numerous other activities on the island, as well, such as charter boat fishing, touring the reef in a glass-bottom boat, kayak trips around the island, diving with dolphins, or simply swimming and relaxing on the calm, clear beaches. Roatan also offers fine restaurants and great shopping. The dress for the island is cool and comfortable – even at the better restaurants – the dress remains casual. This picturesque, hilly tropical island, surrounded by the warm waters of the Caribbean, is the ultimate yachting vacation getaway.
